Course Description
Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) Basics is a practical evidence-based dementia education curriculum that presents person-centred ways to respond to behaviours associated with dementia, with respect, compassion, and gentle persuasion.
GPA OBJECTIVES
- Understand that a person with dementia is a unique human being capable of interacting with the outside world
- Explain the relationship between the disease process and the person’s behavioural response
- Apply emotional, environmental, interpersonal and communication strategies to prevent and defuse responsive behaviours
- Demonstrate suitable and respectful self-protection techniques to use in situations of risk

A certificate from Advanced Gerontological Education (AGE) will be issued to successful learners.
