Course Description

Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) Basics is a practical evidence-based dementia education curriculum that presents person-centred ways to respond to behaviours associated with dementia, with respect, compassion, and gentle persuasion.


  1. Understand that a person with dementia is a unique human being capable of interacting with the outside world
  2. Explain the relationship between the disease process and the person’s behavioural response
  3. Apply emotional, environmental, interpersonal and communication strategies to prevent and defuse responsive behaviours 
  4. Demonstrate suitable and respectful self-protection techniques to use in situations of risk

Additional Information

A certificate from Advanced Gerontological Education (AGE) will be issued to successful learners.
