Course Description

This course will introduce you to strategies for effectively meeting the needs of refugee learners.

In this course you will:

  • Identify learning needs of refugees.
  • Examine strategies for effectively supporting refugee learners
  • Recognize  the signs of compassion fatigue and strategies to prevent it  
  • Describe strategies for creating an effective and supportive learning environment.

This course is 100% online and has a peer-learning focus. Successful course completion will be based on active participation in discussion board forums, completion of activities and the submission of a final assignment. The time commitment is typically 12 hours.

Course Offerings


Combined Online

A course delivery mode that combines elements of non-scheduled and scheduled activity. Learners will be able to participate partly at times of their own choosing and are also required to participate in some scheduled online learning activities. Scheduled exams may be required.
