Course Description
The Practice of Commercial Real Estate is designed for real estate professionals seeking to specialize in the commercial real estate sector, which is comprised of office, retail, industrial, recreational, multi-residential, and land development.
Building on the foundation presented in the Fundamentals of Real Estate course, this course explores the unique attributes of different commercial properties, the factors and analyses upon which real estate investment decisions are based, the fundamental concepts and processes involved in leasing commercial properties, key matters and issues that can impact commercial real estate professionals in their practice, common errors and omissions commercial real estate professionals commit, career considerations for new commercial real estate professionals, and each real estate professional’s role in Alberta’s self-regulated real estate industry.
Key topics include interpretation of commercial markets, investment property analysis, leasing principles, common errors and commission, professionalism, and the role of real estate professionals in Alberta’s real estate industry.
Real Estate Licensing Eligibility:
Learners wanting to become licensed in real estate in Alberta, must first meet the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) eligibility requirements and create a myRECA account. Visit the RECA's Getting Licensed information page for more details.

- Enroll with Bow Valley College in the courses you would like to take.
- Check your email for confirmation and information on how to access your course.
Learners must meet the RECA Eligibility requirements if they wish to use this course for licensing purposes. Learners will need to successfully complete a RECA examination to become licensed.
For students not interested in becoming a real estate licensee:
If you want to take the real estate courses for general interest and do not intend to become a licensee, you do not need to register with RECA. However, we will require you to sign a declaration letter.

Have you completedRELE9101 Fundamentals of Real Estate and your licensing exam and are ready for more? This course offers a detailed dive into the tools, competencies, and expertise needed to excel in Commercial Real Estate.
- Pre-requisites: RELE9101 Fundamentals of Real Estate (or completion of the Fundamentals of Real Estate course at another institution). Verification will be required.
- Course Delivery: Self-paced online study with access to support from industry experts.
- Course Schedule: Six months to complete the course. A recommended 15-week course is provided in the course outline.
- Course length: 80-110 hours based on learners' existing knowledge, experience in the industry, and active engagement with learner supports.
- Course fees: $675
- Completion Requirements: A minimum of 70% is required to pass the course.
- Language of instruction: English
- Accreditation: Officially recognized by RECA as an approved course.
- Validity: 3 months to write RECA’s pre-licensing exam upon completing this course.
RECA Licensing Exam:
Learners must meet the RECA Eligibility requirements and successfully pass this course. Learners will need to successfully complete RECA examination to become licensed.
