This seven-week course is for newcomers (CLB 4-7) who want to improve their workplace communication and job-readiness skills. During the course, learners will improve their English for the workplace, explore different pathways into employment, and research employment opportunities in Alberta to identify their next career steps.
Program Description
This Alberta government-funded program is for newcomers currently at a CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) level 4-7. This is a seven-week full-time course with approximately 20 hours of classwork each week. During the course you will:
- improve your English in the workplace
- explore different pathways to employment
- conduct labour market research
- research about jobs and workplaces you are interested in
- learn about the Alberta job market
- identify what your next career steps will be
This program helps you decide what careers are right for you based on your skills and the current and future job openings. You will learn:
- short-term and long-term goal setting
- necessary employment skills
- intercultural communication
- workplace communication skills
This program is fully funded by the Government of Alberta. Tuition, textbooks, and other materials will be fully funded by the Government of Alberta through Alberta Settlement and Integration Program (ASIP).
Admission Requirements
- Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels: 4, 4, 4, 4
- Be a permanent resident, Convention refugee, or naturalized Canadian citizen
- Not funded by other Government programs
