A valid fit test record is required for all practical nurse clinical placements, and recommended for all health care aide clinical placements.

Please keep the Fit Test Record signed by your instructor. We do not provide duplicates if you lose the form.  We can confirm your mask size and expiry date, for you to submit to your clinical instructor.

PREPARATION GUIDELINES

• Do not eat or drink (except water) for 20 minutes before your class (including no chewing gum).
• Do not smoke for 2 hours before your class.
• Ensure your face is clean shaven in the areas where the respirator mask should seal to your face.

EXPIRY

Your record is valid for 2 years, unless you gain or lose a significant amount of weight or have facial/dental surgery.

WITHDRAWAL or TRANSFER

If you need to transfer to a different appointment time, please email us.  We will make every effort to find you another time.  You can withdraw before the day of your class and receive a full refund.

IF THE TEST DOESN’T WORK FOR YOU

If the instructor is not able to fit you, you will need a quantitative test, from an external provider.  We do not offer refunds if you need further testing. The qualitative test we use works for 98% of our learners. Following the preparation guidelines will help ensure a successful test.

Frequently asked questions

I have asthma – is it safe for me to be exposed to Bitrex? Bitrex has not demonstrated any problem for individuals with asthma. Additionally, the amount of Bitrex actually used in the test is extremely low. People can detect Bitrex at 50 parts per billion (ppb) in water.

Can I have a fit test if I am pregnant?   Yes, you can. The solution we use is a nontoxic and completely digestible. We currently use Bitrex FT-31 and FT-32.
