May is Sexual Violence Awareness month, a time for us to reflect and take action against sexual violence. Bow Valley is hosting a number of events and we encourage you to participate to ensure we are supporting learners who have been impacted by sexual violence.

May 5thNational Day of Awareness into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Join us in Iniikokaan at 12 p.m. to hear about supporting Indigenous women through this talk with Elder Ruth Scalplock. Register here

May 12th: Moose Hide Campaign Day. Join BVC in participation of the Moose Hide Campiagn. We will be streaming the plenary in Iniikokaan at 9:30a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a discussion about addressing violence against women and a discussion on Indigenous masculinities with Elder Ernie Poundmaker. May 26thJoin Hilary Jahelka, Sexual Violence Response Advisor, and Ciara Deschamps, Learner Conduct Officer from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for a lunch and learn opportunity to better support students impacted by sexual violence. We will explore Bow Valley College’s Sexual Violence Policy and what you can do to support students impacted by sexual violence. Sign up here.

May 28th: Join Hilary and Katie, Sexual Violence Response Advisors for Bow Valley College and the University of Calgary, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for a workshop on supporting disclosures of Child Sexual Abuse. This is a 3-hour interactive workshop for anyone who has children or youth in their lives (personal and professional). We will go over what child sexual abuse is, the realities of it, and how to respond to children if they disclose. Register here. Open to staff, faculty and students.
