Welcome to Bow Valley College. New Student Orientation is important for all students joining the Bow Valley College community for the first time. Attend Welcome Week activities taking place on Jan 4, 5, 6 & 9th
- Get the right tools to succeed in your academic courses and be comfortable with BVC before classes begin
- Meet fellow students, & your instructors and program chairs
- Learn about the many free resources and student services available at BVC

Getting started
Use this checklist to make sure you are ready for your first day at Bow Valley College:
- Students must show a student photo ID card to enter campus. Request your student ID card before the term starts.
- Learn how to use technology for your online studies at BVC.
- Set up your MyBVC.ca account.
- Access your timetable and courses through MyBVC.ca under "Registration" and then "Schedule" (this applies to most programs).
- Check your MyBVC email weekly to make sure you are getting important news and messages from the College.
- Apply for a student loan and scholarships/awards to access financial assistance.
- If you're a student with a disability, apply for academic accommodations before you start classes. Check out the Accessibility Services webpage, call 403-410-1440, or email accessibility@bowvalleycollege.ca
- Pay tuition and fees before deadlines. Check how you can pay.
- Buy your textbooks online from the Bookstore. Check with your program chair or instructor before you buy them to make sure you have the right edition.
- Be sure to add important dates and deadlines to your calendar at the beginning of the year.
International students
Some programs may have extra activities during the first week of classes, but this orientation is required for all new Bow Valley College students. For international students, there is an International Student Welcome session on New Student Orientation Day 1 (August 30)
- Email a copy or photo of your valid study permit and co-op work permit (if applicable) to the international education department at ieconnect@bowvalleycollege.ca.
- Apply for your co-op work permit at least 3-4 months prior to starting the clinical, practicum, or work portions of your certificate or diploma.
- Apply for basic health insurance coverage through Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan if you are eligible.
- Make sure your contact information is up to date on your MyBVC.ca account.
