Electric Vehicle Chargers at Bow Valley College
Electric vehicle owners can now charge their vehicles while at Bow Valley College’s Calgary campus. We have recently installed two Level 2 chargers in the South Campus parkade (345 6th Ave SE) beside the parking attendant office on P1.
These chargers are available to employees, learners and visitors at no cost. To activate the chargers, users must have the FLO Mobile app or ChargePoint app. Depending on demand, a cost for charge may be added in the future.
This project was possible thanks to the generous support from ENMAX through the Charge Up pilot program. The data collected at Bow Valley College’s chargers will be shared with ENMAX as part of this pilot program, to help ENMAX understand how Calgarians use electric vehicles and the potential impact they will have on Calgary’s electricity system.
Electric vehicles are becoming more popular in Canada. Currently the federal government is consulting on a proposed Emissions Reduction Plan that will require all new passenger car sales to be zero-emissions models by 2035. In July 2021, Natural Resources Canada announced funding to install 44 new public chargers in Calgary. The number of available chargers grows each year, and Bow Valley College is contributing to that growth.
The College is taking additional steps to make our campus more sustainable, such as our sustainable purchasing initiative, award-winning waste management programs, and the development of our first climate action plan. Learn more about sustainability at Bow Valley College here.
