Bow Valley College Makes Top 50 Research Colleges in Canada List

Dec.11, 2024 (Calgary, AB) Bow Valley College moved up in Research Infosource’s annual rankings this year, after attracting nearly $1.85 million in research grants, an increase of 7.3 per cent.

Bow Valley College’s inclusion in Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges 2024 highlights the college’s commitment to innovation and better understanding the needs of Alberta employers and students.

“We are thrilled to make this list again this year, but even more significant are the insights and knowledge made possible by the funding and the faculty and research staff who worked so diligently on their areas of study,” says Tanya McDonald, Dean of Applied Research at Bow Valley College.

Research teams studied areas such as essential skills needs, barriers to entrepreneur success, cross-cultural conflict resolution, and the effect of vicarious trauma on Canadian post-secondary instructors. Each area of study helps organizations better prepare people for the demands of the workforce, reduce costs associated with inefficiencies and minimize adverse health impacts.

One area of particular research growth was the Mitacs internship portfolio which placed students with industry to work on transformative research and development initiatives. Funding organization Mitacs says on average, supported projects for companies partnering with colleges increase productivity by 11 per cent and revenue by 9 per cent.

As part of its effort to provide an education that pairs academic excellence with practical relevance, Bow Valley College has set a goal of becoming a top 20 research college in Canada, a key marker of success in its Launch | Advance | Evolve strategic plan.
