Bow Valley College’s Vice President, Academic, appointed to Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada
The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, announced the appointment of Dr. Misheck Mwaba, Vice President, Academic for Bow Valley College, to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
NSERC is a federal research funding agency that plays an important role in Canada’s research and scientific landscape. NSERC invests over $1.2 billion each year in natural sciences and engineering research in Canada.
Dr. Mwaba’s appointment means that Bow Valley College will play a role in setting the national agenda for research and innovation in natural sciences and engineering. His experience includes conducting research in Canada and abroad, publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and implementing applied research initiatives at colleges.
“I’m looking forward to providing insight into developing strategies that support research and innovation in our colleges and universities across Canada,” says Dr. Mwaba.
“As one of the few individuals on Council from a college, I have observed how applied research in colleges has helped Small-Medium Enterprises thrive and accelerate economic growth through the creation of new jobs. I hope to contribute to strategies that support both fundamental and applied research and initiatives that create value from innovative ideas.”
NSERC's governing body is a council composed of 18 distinguished Canadians. The Council is advised by various standing and advisory committees that are guided by a peer review process. The terms of these appointments are staggered between two and three years’ duration.
