Bow Valley College named as 2018 AASHE Sustainability Award Finalist

CALGARY - The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) announced Bow Valley College as a finalist for the 2018 AASHE Sustainability Awards in the Campus Sustainability category for outstanding achievements in sustainability.

Winners will be announced mid-September and recognized during the opening ceremony at the AASHE Conference & Expo in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Oct. 2, 2018. Finalists’ entries will be judged on overall impact, innovation, stakeholder involvement, clarity and other criteria specific to each category.

“Bow Valley College is committed to reducing the waste we send to landfills through the implementation of traditional and specialized recycling programs,” said Amy Spark, Bow Valley College’s Sustainability Coordinator. “This award helps us celebrate our progress toward a 90% diversion goal, while inspiring us to stay committed to waste prevention and reduction at all levels of our operations. We are a proud member of AASHE and the wider sustainable campus community!

“The higher education sustainability community continues to stay focused on work that contributes toward a thriving, equitable and ecologically healthy world. This is most evident through the entries received for the AASHE Sustainability Awards,” said Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. “I am happy that we can recognize the innovation and leadership demonstrated by this year’s finalists.”
