Bow Valley College and Connexion Carrière to host Calgary’s Bilingual Career Fair

For Calgary area job seekers who are bilingual in French and English, Bow Valley College and Connexion Carrière, in partnership with the Government of Alberta, offer a more personal way to apply for coveted positions in a variety of industries.

About 30 bilingual employers and recruitment companies representing technology, oil and gas, safety, finance, trades, hospitality, education, aviation and government will be in attendance to network face-to-face with students, new immigrants as well as employed or unemployed workers looking to advance their career.

Randy Quansah, Bilingual Career Coach with Connexion Carrière in Calgary, applauds the College’s initiative for such an inclusive event.

“French is one of the two official languages of Canada, and it’s often underrepresented in a career fair setting,” he states. “There are a lot of bilingual students and workers who have emigrated from Quebec, African and European countries who speak both English and French fluently. By hosting this career fair, Bow Valley College is making it easier to help people put their dual language skills to work.”

He adds that many French-speaking newcomers are highly educated, experienced and able to transition easily into bilingual jobs, yet they struggle connecting with the employers who need them.

“Our partner employers at the fair are offering jobs that Francophone Calgarians are looking for, especially if they want to progress further in established organizations. We encourage visitors to bring copies of their resume and take advantage of the chance to ask questions and leave a good impression.”

Career and resume coaches will also be on hand for complementary services, such as reviewing resumes and providing career advice. Unique door prizes such as an iPad, and gifts cards for clothing, footwear, barbershop/salon care will give a boost to participants in preparing for future job interviews and positions.
