Bow Valley College Welcomes Mayor Nenshi’s Comments on Block 40
CALGARY - As Alberta's largest, fastest-growing comprehensive community college, Bow Valley College welcomes Mayor Nenshi's recent comments regarding the future use of Block 40, which includes the Calgary Public Library Central branch, Calgary Police Service offices, and our College.
Since 2010-11, the College's enrolment has expanded by 29 per cent. The dramatic growth over this period is largely a response to the global phenomenon towards practical, work-ready education that is designed to get learners into the workforce.
"In both positive and challenging economic times, there is strong demand for access to education because of our College's ability to adapt to economic drivers, which ensures that the labour force is ready to meet the needs of a diversified 21st century economy. However, success has a cost and our ability to properly serve the Calgary region will be constrained by the limit of our physical footprint," said Sharon Carry, Bow Valley College's President and CEO.
Public investment in Bow Valley College returns $3.30 for every $1 spent, and graduates will receive $4.60 for every $1 they invest in their education. Therefore, we believe that Block 40 represents an important opportunity for the College's growth, our future learners, and taxpayers.

As the most collaborative institution of its kind we look forward to discussing the many opportunities available in order to continue serving Alberta and the Calgary region.
