Alberta Business Students Compete in Business Case Competition

Calgary - Business students from across Alberta will gather at Bow Valley College (BVC) March 12-14, 2015, to compete in the 10th annual Alberta Deans of Business Case Competition.

The 140 students and faculty members, representing 13 colleges and universities across Alberta, will battle to decide the winning team with the best business solution, and compete for cash prizes totalling $8,000.00.

This is a great opportunity for the students to put what they've learned in class to practical use, and to develop solutions for real world business challenges. Each team will be given a business case problem to solve, and students will then have an intense nine hours to analyze, develop and prepare their solution. Students will have access to two advisers from their College or University, but they will not have access to their cellphones. On Saturday morning, the teams will deliver their presentations before an audience and panel of industry professional judges.

David Allwright, Dean of the Chiu School of Business, has been involved with the competition for many years and says these experiences are invaluable to the learners. "The students who participate in the competition benefit tremendously from the experience," he said. "They have to analyze a real world problem in a pressure-cooker environment - it's an experience that they will be able to draw upon for the rest of their lives."

The Bow Valley College students involved in this year's competition team have been practicing almost every day for the past three months - reading case studies, researching different markets and performing financial analysis. It's a rigorous schedule as they meet twice a week with their faculty coaches, and they maintain a full class and study schedule.

For more information about the event please go to the Alberta Deans of Business Case Competition event page on the Bow Valley College website.

Editor's notes:

Please note the competition is not open to the public, but we encourage the media to attend. We have b-roll of our College's team during a recent practice session; however, this is embargoed until after the teams are announced on Friday morning. We will release this content at that time and provide it to any interested media outlets.
