Bow Valley College proud to be one of Alberta's Top 65 Employers

CALGARY - Bow Valley College (BVC) is pleased to announce that we have been named as one of Alberta's Top 65 Employers. This is the first year that BVC has earned this prestigious award, and we are delighted to be featured as one of only three post-secondary institutions who made the list this year.

"We're proud to be recognized as one of Alberta's Top 65 Employers. Our employees are passionate, creative and driven to make a difference in our learner's lives, and that makes for a fulfilling career. In return we offer numerous benefits that go beyond the scope of a traditional benefits plan. This designation proves what we've known along: BVC is a rewarding place to work and a great place to call home," said Sharon Carry, BVC President and CEO.

The Alberta's Top 65 Employers honour is a reflection of the good work-life balance, facilities, and benefits package BVC provides to their employees. The College offers above average vacation entitlements, 13 statutory holidays per year, and paid days off work between Christmas and New Years' Eve. The benefits package includes flexible medical and dental coverage that starts from day one of employment, as well as a health spending account. In addition, BVC offers two professional development days a year, free or reduced tuition, and employee-funded leave so that employees can pursue further education or go travelling with their family.

BVC is located in the heart of Calgary's exciting and vibrant downtown core. In fact, our employees love the College's central location on the CTrain line because it makes for an easy commute into the office. Our Calgary Campus offers amazing workspaces and amenities, including an on-site daycare facility, partnered through the YWCA; a multi-faith room; and a cafeteria with a focus on serving healthy food.

BVC's Calgary Campus is an award-winning building [Alberta Construction Magazine's best Projects Institutional (over $50 million)] that features stunning architecture and design, and the South Campus is LEED silver certified. The seven-story space contains new classrooms, laboratories, specialized learning centres, the Iniikokaan Aboriginal Centre, over 400 pieces of art, and a fourth-floor patio and roof-top gardens with views of the Calgary skyline.

BVC is made up of employees who are committed to our learners' success, as well as each other's. Our staff and faculty consistently say it is the people who keep them at the College, the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our learners, and the incredible support they receive from their co-workers and supervisors. With 20 locations throughout Southern Alberta, and employee positions in such diverse areas as instruction, program development and co-ordination, learner services advising, IT and administrative support, there's a variety of areas for our employees to put their talent and skills towards.

Editor's note:

Now in its tenth year, Alberta's Top 65 Employers is an annual competition that recognizes Alberta employers that lead their industries in offering extraordinary places to work.

Employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the Canada Top 100 Employers competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are then compared with other companies in their field to determine the group that offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs for their employees.

Bow Valley College - Calgary and region's only Comprehensive Community College - with more than 14,000 full- and part-time students, is a leader in business and health career training, adult upgrading, and English Language Learning. BVC's Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES), workplace training for immigrant professionals and employment services provide a wide range of services for businesses and professionals.
