Bow Valley Health Care Aide Program a real collaborative effort

Smiling, happy faces filled the room during the Health Care Aide program orientation which was held January 15, 2013. "In the spirit of Campus Alberta, it is a real collaborative effort between Bow Valley College, Mountain View Community Adult Learning Society, Campus Alberta Central and Olds College." states Dr. Jason Dewling, Vice-President Academic and Research for Olds College.

"Now learners in Olds and surrounding area have more options for lifelong learning and full participation in Alberta's economy," said Anna Kae Todd, Vice President Learning, Bow Valley College. "By offering the HCA program in Olds, BVC is furthering our commitment to deliver any time, any place, any path, any pace learning."

The Health Care Aide program - designed and taught by Bow Valley College - and offered at Olds College, provides students with the skills required to provide personal care for patients in long-term care, acute care, and community/home care settings.  Lana Bramley, Executive Director of the Mountain View Community Adult Learning Society, agrees that promoting programs in rural Central Alberta benefits everyone in the region.  "We are extremely proud to provide Health Care Aide programs in such a collaborative effort."

The Full-Time Health Care Aide program runs for 16 weeks and is a blended (on-line, classroom workshop, and laboratory) setting over 11 weeks, and completed with five weeks of clinical/practicum experience.  The workshops and lab sessions will be held in Olds, AB and students will be required to travel to Olds College to attend classroom sessions two days each week.
