New Public Relations program is one of a kind in Calgary

CALGARY — Bow Valley College (BVC) is filling an important niche in the Calgary market by introducing its new Public Relations Diploma program in partnership with Grant MacEwan University.

The two-semester program offers learners with previous post-secondary education the opportunity to pursue an exciting new career in public relations in less than one year.

"This is the only public relations diploma program in Calgary, which will give learners the option to start a career in PR three years faster than similar degree-granting programs offered in the city," says Beverley DeSantis, BVC's Coordinator of Business Programs.

Students will learn the fundamentals of media relations, internal and external communications, writing for public relations, and public relations for digital media.

Every learner will also complete a hands-on practicum placement in the field, working in a non-profit, not-for-profit or corporate communications department before they graduate.

"As with all of our career programs at BVC, graduates will leave the program with real-world communications experience and a network with which they can build their careers and find their first jobs in the industry," says DeSantis.

"We're extremely pleased with the feed back about the program we've received from public relations professionals who see this as important offering for those looking to enter the field," says DeSantis.

"We are building an advisory committee comprised of senior professionals to ensure our program is at the forefront of best practices and new trends in public relations and communications."
