Bow Valley College welcomes new Board Chair, Joanne Stalinski
CALGARY - Joanne Stalinski, a former health services executive who has a passion for
post-secondary education, has been named Chair of Bow Valley College’s (BVC) Board of
Governors.
It is Stalinski’s second term on BVC’s Board. She has served as a public member beginning
in 2005 and, more recently, as Vice-Chair. The Honourable Doug Horner, Deputy Premier
and Minister of Advanced Education and Technology, approved the appointment effective
October 17.
“Joanne brings a deep appreciation for the value of post-secondary education and of our role
as Calgary and region’s One and Only Comprehensive Community College,” says Sharon
Carry, BVC President and CEO. “Her skills will be invaluable as the College moves toward
the completion of its expansion and prepares to reach an ambitious enrolment target of
20,000 students by 2020.”
Stalinski’s term will be for three years. She succeeds Scott Thon, President and CEO of
AltaLink as Board Chair.
“The Bow Valley College story has been one of tremendous growth and innovation in the
past several years,” Stalinski says. “I’m delighted I’ve been asked to continue to contribute
to this era of expanding opportunity and access for learners in Calgary and beyond.”
Bow Valley College is extremely grateful to outgoing chair, Thon, for his unwavering
commitment to learners at a time of great change for the College. During his three-year term
as Chair, BVC has increased its enrolment and program offerings, as well as completed
Phase I of its North Campus expansion and redevelopment project.
The Ministry of Advanced Education and Technology also appointed Wayne Chiu to a
second term, which will expire on September 9, 2013. Chiu, President and CEO of TRICO
Homes, is also a longtime supporter and friend of the College.
