Turnitin helps students identify plagiarism in written assignments. It compares your assignments to a collection of other written documents and looks for matches.
You will only use Turnitin if your instructor has enabled it for your class. Talk to your instructor if you have questions about how they use Turnitin for assignments.
Before you can view your Turnitin Report, you need to submit your assignment in D2L. If you are not sure how to submit your assignment, follow the steps here.
1. Go to the Dropbox/Assignment tab in your D2L course.
2. Find the assignment that you want to view the Turnitin report for. Click on the Submissions number beside your assignment.
Note: After you submit your assignment, it can take some time to generate a Turnitin report. You may need to wait 15 minutes or longer before you can view your report.
3. On the Submission History page that opens, click on the percentage icon under the Turnitin® Similarity heading.
A similarity report is divided into three areas:
- Your name and the name of the assignment are displayed at the top.
- The assignment takes up most of the screen. Areas that are highlighted are where Turnitin has found matches to other content.
- Your overall similarity score and the external sources that have been matched to the paper are listed in the Match Overview column.
If the Match Overview column is hidden, click the Match Overview button (the number in the red box) to display it.
The matched text and the sources of match are numbered and colour-coded for easy detection.
If you click on a highlighted number in the paper, a popup with a section of the external source will be displayed.
If you have questions about your assignment or Turnitin Report, you will need to contact your instructor.
