You can connect with a Writing Specialist three different ways: Email, MS Teams, or In-person at the Academic Success Centre (N266).
To email your assignment to a Writing Specialist for review, please follow these steps:
1. Email writingsupport@bowvalleycollege.ca
2. Include Assignment for Writing Support in the subject line.
3. Attach your writing as a Word document (.docx) to the email.
4. Include any information from your course that gives directions for the assignment – an outline, a rubric, or page from your course syllabus.
5. Wait for a reply from the Writing Specialist with comments and feedback added to your file. Please be aware that due to high demand, it may take up to 72 hours to review assignments.
6. You can submit the same writing assignment two (2) times for review.
You can book a 30-minute appointment with a Writing Specialist. This will be a live, one-on-one meeting to discuss any questions you have about an upcoming assignment or general concerns about academic writing in English.
You can select to meet with a Writing Specialist in an online MS Teams appointment or in-person in Room N266 at Bow Valley College.
If you select an Online (MS Teams) appointment, you will need to:
1. Choose a day and time for the appointment that fits your schedule.
2. Fill out the form with your information. Please use your mybvc.ca email address!
3. Check to see that you have received a confirmation email and/or text message for the appointment.
4. Wait for one of the Writing Specialists to contact you through MS Teams on the scheduled date. Be ready to share your files or screen during the meeting.
If you select an In-person Appointment, you will need to:
1. Choose a day and time for an appointment that fits your schedule.
2. Fill out the form with your information. Please use your mybvc.ca email address!
3. Check to see that you have received a confirmation email and/or text message for the appointment.
4. Arrive for your scheduled Writing Specialist appointment in Room N266 of the North Campus at Bow Valley College.
Please note: It is important to arrive for an in-person appointment with the writing you would like to review or specific questions you have about writing. This may be done by bringing a printed copy or sharing the file in a Teams call. It may also work well to attach your assignment to an email—along with any instructions, rubric, outline, etc -- that can be sent to writingsupport@bowvalleycollege.ca before arriving for your appointment. Make sure you specify in the subject line that this is an assignment for an in-person appointment and include the date and time of your meeting.
