Mentorship for Rural Immigrants
This program offers career guidance and Canadian cultural learning to immigrants in rural Alberta communities. Over several weeks, participants will explore online materials, articles, activities, and assignments on key topics including:
- Canadian culture in the workplace
- Communication and soft skills
- Digital literacy
- Career and employment strategies
- Teamwork, collaboration, and problem solving
- Community connections
You'll learn important soft skills like communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, problem solving, work ethic, time management, and teamwork—skills highly valued by Canadian employers. Participants often report increased confidence, improved skills, and greater ability to communicate effectively in their Canadian workplace.
Time Commitment:
- Duration of the program: 16 weeks
- Mentee: approximately 16 to 18 hours online and 12 to 16 hours in person
- Mentor: approximately 8 hours online and 12 to 16 hours in person

A mentee is a motivated learner gaining skills and insights from a mentor.
Applicants must be immigrants legally authorized to work in Canada, including:
- Canadian citizens
- Permanent residents
- Refugees
- Ukrainians under the Canadian-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) or CUAET Emergency Visa Program
Applicants must also meet the following criteria:
- Possess intermediate English language skills (approximately CLB 5 or higher)
- Reside in rural Alberta (excluding Calgary and Edmonton)
- Completed some post-secondary education or related work experience in their field or chosen occupation

- You must be committed and open to helping newcomers.
- You must have Canadian work experience.
- You must have access to a computer.
