BVC welcomes Linda Bruce, former Mayor of Airdrie, to the College Community
Bow Valley College today announced that Linda Bruce, former mayor of Airdrie has joined BVC as the local representative in the City of Airdrie.
"Linda is a welcome addition to the Bow Valley College community" said Sharon Carry, President and CEO, Bow Valley College. "With many years in the public service and non-for-profit sectors, Linda's experience aligns well with our vision here at the College."
In her role at BVC, Bruce will work to improve access to post-secondary education programs and services in the region, support local economic and workforce development through education and training, and support the College and our departments locally while seeking new opportunities for programming and services.
Additionally Bruce will conduct local research into the education and training needs of employers, employed workers, and individuals to facilitate the needs of the community, as well as manage the local campus operations at Main Street and 1st Avenue NW, Airdrie.
As Mayor of Airdrie for six years, and an Airdrie city counsellor for nine years prior, Bruce's knowledge of the community is a major asset that makes her an excellent choice for this role.
In addition to her time as mayor, Bruce chaired the Calgary Regional Partnership, and most recently was Executive Director of Creative Airdrie, has been a columnist for Airdrie Life Magazine, First Aid and CPR instructor, and has built an impressive set of contacts and relationships in communities, business and government over many years.
"Linda was with creative Airdrie since it was established more than 3 years ago. As our Executive Director she has played a vital role in growing this organization into a highly respected and a significant contributor to the quality of life in the City of Airdrie, and we wish her all the best in her new role," said Tim Bolton, Chair, Creative Airdrie Society.
The implementation of this position is another indicator of BVC's strong commitment to communities and builds upon a long history of creating local partnerships and access to learning in communities and rural regions.
