Bow Valley College featured on CNN’s GPS on Immigration with Fareed Zakaria
CALGARY - Alongside interviews from world leaders including Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, this Sunday's Global Lessons: The GPS Roadmap for Making Immigration Work, features segments with Laurel Madro of Bow Valley College's Corporate Readiness Training Program (CRTP) and Erika Rodriguez, recent CRTP graduate.
The June 10 debut, hosted by Fareed Zakaria of CNN, promises to be an intriguing look at immigration policy, practice, and theory from Japan, Germany, Canada, and the United States. The show follows a day in the life of Erika Rodriguez, recent newcomer to Canada from Colombia, CRTP graduate, and new employee of Tridyne Projects Corporation of Calgary.
BVC's Corporate Readiness Training Program is designed for internationally trained professionals (engineers, IT professionals, accountants, administrators, technicians, or designers) who want to develop practical Canadian business skills and relevant work experience in Canada. CRTP also helps local companies find highly skilled team members for work placement and permanent positions. CRTP includes 10 weeks of intensive in-class training, six weeks of relevant on-site work experience, and six months of follow-up career support.
CRTP was developed more than 10 years ago and during that time, literally hundreds of internationally trained professionals have gone through the program and are now gainfully employed in their occupation. In fact, over 90 per cent of graduates of BVC's Corporate Readiness Training Program have found employment in their field.
CRTP is another example of BVC's essential skills work carried out locally and nationally. Included is a video of similar work done in Calgary by Bow Valley College with corporate partner WorleyParsons, as part of a national project of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.
