Bow Valley College is the first Canadian Hub for the IBM Skills Academy
The IBM Skills Academy is a new academic professional technical certification program to prepare students for careers in the IT industry and build local capability consistent with international standards. IBM trains Bow Valley College faculty to enable them to train students across several career tracks such as business intelligence, cyber security, and cloud computing. The goal of the program is for learners to progress through IBM curriculum in an accelerated manner, facilitated by the academic partners. Learners can obtain open badges in a number of areas including:
- Business analytics
The current program model is a one week (five full days) program delivered through IBM’s web-based simulation lab. Learners log in and progress through the simulation. Once the simulation is completed, learners attend a second five-day program of face-to-face workshops. IBM is looking to collaborate with an academic institution in each region. The academic partner will provide the faculty to teach the program who must be qualified through a “train the trainer” program.
