The Essential Skills for Apprentices project aims to build on these promising results by piloting the approach nationally with apprentices and pre-apprentices, with an emphasis on populations at high-risk. Through this project, training providers, instructors and employers will build capacity improve essential skills.
The model involves identifying apprentices with skills gaps early in their program so that instructors can deliver essential skills interventions before learners get behind in technical training. This just-in-time approach to building essential skills gives learners the tools they need to acquire technical knowledge efficiently.
In addition to improving learner outcomes, the project will evaluate the return on training investment to encourage further integration of essential skills into apprenticeship training programs.
