Open Studies - Regional – Fall 2020

Program Description
This Open Studies program will provide regional learners access to a selection of Bow Valley College post-secondary credit courses without requiring admission or commitment to one of the College's post-secondary programs. The courses offered in Fall 2020 align with a number of programs as follows:
Creative Technologies:
DESN1101 – Fundamental Principles of Digital Design
DESN2202 – Introduction to Digital Media Production
SODV1101 – Programming Fundamentals
MGMT1101 – Introduction to Management
HRES1101 – Organizational Behaviour
Community Studies:
ELCC2201 – Creative Expressions: Theory and Practice
ELCC2205 – School Age Care
ELCC2213 – Language, Literacy and Communication in the Early Years
COMM1101 – Interpersonal Relationships & Communication Skills

Delivery Method
This is a real-time online program, where virtual learning activities happen through scheduled interaction using online communications technologies such as Microsoft Teams. Learners ARE REQUIRED to participate in online learning activities at regularly scheduled times, and scheduled exams may be required.

Priority will be given to regional residents within the Bow Valley College service region.

Practical Nurse Diploma (5-Term Program) - January 2021 (application open date pending)

Program Description
There are many opportunities to use skills as a Practical Nurse, including child care, maternity nursing, community health, mental wellness, seniors care, and medicine. The Practical Nurse Diploma program is a recognized and popular program for prospective health care providers.

Early Childhood Education & Development Certificate (3-Term Program) - Fall 2020

Program Description
You can make a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities. The one-year (3 terms) Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) Certificate program prepares you to provide quality child care in a wide variety of settings and plan emergent play experiences for the children in your care. You will gain knowledge of child development, family dynamics, play, and program planning that will equip you to support the healthy development of children through child-centred learning experiences.

Delivery Method (Due to COVID-19, all classes will be delivered online until further notice)
The delivery method is blended (a combination of online and traditional classroom learning).
This program combines theory and practice and graduates are eligible for Child Development Worker certification from Alberta Human Services (Formerly Level II).
Please note that this certificate is also the first year of the Early Childhood Education & Development Diploma (formerly Level III).
How to Apply
Priority for the Strathmore intake will be given to residents of Strathmore, followed by other rural residents within the Bow Valley College service region.
