Practical Nurse Diploma (5 Term)  Fall 2020, High River (application open date pending)

There are many opportunities to use skills as a Practical Nurse, including child care, maternity nursing, community health, mental wellness, seniors care and medicine. The Practical Nurse Diploma program is a recognized and popular program for prospective health care providers.

Please note that you must be a resident of High River, Okotoks, or the surrounding rural community; we do not accept applicants from Calgary.

Applications for this program must be submitted in-person to the Okotoks or High River Campuses.

Early Childhood Education & Development Certificate – Fall 2020, Okotoks Campus (application open date pending)

Program Description
You can make a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities. The 1 year (3 term) Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) Certificate program prepares you to provide quality child care in a wide variety of settings and plan emergent play experiences for the children in your care. You will gain knowledge of child development, family dynamics, play, and program planning that will equip you to support the healthy development of children through child-center learning experiences.

Delivery options
The ECED Certificate program in Okotoks is offered during the evenings and weekends in a traditional classroom setting with an onsite instructor, plus a weekly online course.
This program combines theory and practice and graduates are eligible for Child Development Worker certification from Alberta Human Services (Formerly Level II).
Please note that this certificate is also the first year of the Early Childhood & Education Diploma (formerly Level III).

Applications for this program must be submitted in-person to the Okotoks or High River Campuses.

English Language Classes

The High River Campus offers a range of English Language classes. Details for the next offerings are as follows:

LINC class, Levels 4 to 6
Tuesdays and Thursdays
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
You must be a permanent resident or refugee to take this class. No cost.

Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Testing

Bow Valley College partners with ILVARC and the Government of Canada to offer Canadian Language Benchmark placement testing (CLBPT) at the High River Campus.

CLB placement testing is available at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.

Upgrading Programs

High School-Anytime Online Learning (ATOL) offers a flexible opportunity to take the courses you need to further your education. Online Bow Valley College students can book space to work on their courses and write their exams at the High River Campus. Please contact us for more details.

Exam Proctoring

We offer exam proctoring/invigilation for individuals taking distance education courses through other post-secondary institutions or learning organizations.

Exams may only be written from Monday to Friday, at 9:00am or 1:00 and finishing by 4:30pm, based on campus availability.

All exam writers will be charged an invigilation fee of $70 + GST per exam, as well as any additional costs incurred (printing, postage, etc.), to be paid on the day of the exam before writing.

Employee Edge Business & Computer Training

In today’s job market, the deciding factor for employers often comes down to a candidates’ ideal mix of technical and soft skills. Take one or all of the courses and workshops below…and get the EDGE.

All courses are offered at the High River Campus through a "blended delivery" of scheduled online classes. Registration closes 24-48 hours before the course starts, or sooner if the course is full. Register for each course individually using the links below and choose the High River location to secure your seat. Courses may be used toward several Bow Valley College Continuing Education Certificates.
