Open Studies - Regional  Winter 2021

Program Description
This Open Studies program will provide regional learners access to a selection of Bow Valley College post-secondary credit courses without requiring admission or commitment to one of the College's post-secondary programs. The courses offered align with a number of programs as follows:
HRES1101 – Organizational Behaviour
MGMT1101 – Introduction to Management MKTG1101 – Introduction to Marketing
CADD1101 – AutoCAD 1
TECH1101 – Web and Internet Fundamentals
Community Studies:
ELCC2209 – Caring for Infants and Toddlers
ELCC2301 – Observation and Documentation in Child Development
ELCC2305 – Inclusive Care and Education of Young Children
PSYC1101 – Introduction to Psychology

Delivery Method (Due to COVID-19, all classes will be delivered online until further notice)
Courses are delivered through a mixed delivery mode where learning activities take place through a blend of scheduled or non-scheduled in-class and online delivery methods. Learners ARE REQUIRED to participate in scheduled learning activities (scheduled exams may be required).
How to Apply
Priority will be given to regional residents within the Bow Valley College service region.

Practical Nurse Diploma (5-Term Program) – Winter 2021

Program Description
There are many opportunities to use skills as a Practical Nurse, including child care, maternity nursing, community health, mental wellness, seniors care, and medicine. The Practical Nurse Diploma program is a recognized and popular program for prospective health care providers.
Delivery Method (Due to COVID-19, all classes will be delivered online until further notice)
The Practical Nurse Diploma program in Okotoks is delivered through a combination of online learning, synchronous learning, and traditional classroom learning. On-campus labs will be held at our Main Campus, located in Downtown Calgary.
How to Apply
Priority will be given to residents of Okotoks and High River, followed by other rural residents within the Bow Valley College service region.

Early Childhood Education & Development Certificate (3-Term Program) – Fall 2021

Program Description
You can make a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities. The one-year (3 terms) Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) Certificate program prepares you to provide quality child care in a wide variety of settings and plan emergent play experiences for the children in your care. You will gain knowledge of child development, family dynamics, play, and program planning that will equip you to support the healthy development of children through child-centred learning experiences.

Delivery Method (Due to COVID-19, all classes will be delivered online until further notice)
The ECED Certificate program in Okotoks is offered during the evenings and weekends in a classroom setting with an onsite instructor, plus a weekly online course.
This program combines theory and practice and graduates are eligible for Child Development Worker certification from Alberta Human Services (Formerly Level II).
Please note that this certificate is also the first year of the Early Childhood Education and Development Diploma (formerly Level III).
How to Apply
Priority will be given to residents of Okotoks and High River, followed by other rural residents within the Bow Valley College service region.
Applications will be accepted starting in Spring 2021.

Tuesday and Thursday
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Delivery method is real-time online.
Permanent residents and Convention refugees are eligible for this course.

Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Testing

Bow Valley College partners with ILVARC and the Government of Canada to offer Canadian Language Benchmark placement testing (CLBPT) at the High River Campus.

Exam Proctoring  **Due to COVID-19, all exam proctoring is currently on hold**

We offer exam proctoring/invigilation for individuals taking distance education courses through other post-secondary institutions or learning organizations.
Exams may only be written from Monday to Friday, starting at 9:00 am or at 1:00 pm and finishing by 4:30 pm, based on campus availability.
Each exam writer will be charged an invigilation fee of $70 + GST per exam, as well as any additional costs incurred (printing, postage, etc.), to be paid on the day of the exam before exam writing begins.

Online Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR)

Heart & Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) for Health Care Providers
Learn how to save lives with this course that is required/recommended by many employers and for many health care program clinical placements.
A blended learning delivery method allows you to complete your online learning at home, followed by your hands-on skills practice and evaluation at the High River Campus. 

BLS 120 (full): $115.00 + GST
BLS 90 (renewal): $85.00 + GST
