Programs

Program Description

Open Studies Regional provides regional learners access to a variety of Bow Valley College post-secondary credit courses without requiring admission or commitment to one of the College's post-secondary programs. Offered each term, introductory courses from fields such as business, health, community studies, social science, and technology align with programs at the College.

Delivery Method

Courses are delivered through a mixed delivery mode where learning activities take place through a blend of in-class and online delivery methods. Learners are required to participate in scheduled learning activities. Scheduled exams may be required.

Program Description

Get the skills and knowledge to take on many responsibilities in an office. Learn software applications, keyboarding, administrative procedures, and communication. The Administrative Professional Certificate is a two-term program with five courses in the first two terms followed by four weeks of work-integrated learning in the third term.

Courses are delivered through a mixed delivery mode where learning activities take place through a blend of scheduled in-class and scheduled or non-scheduled online delivery methods. Learners are required to participate in scheduled learning activities. Scheduled exams may be required.

Program Description

The Business Administration Certificate examines general business concepts and focuses on developing introductory skills in accounting principles, management, organizational behavior, and marketing. Graduates are qualified for entry level positions in the areas of accounting, office administration, retail services, marketing, and sales.

Program Description

You can make a difference in the lives of children, families, and communities. The Early Childhood Education and Development Diploma program prepares you to provide quality child care in a wide variety of settings and plan emergent play experiences for the children in your care. Programs combines theory and practice to help you gain knowledge of child development, family dynamics, play, and program planning that will equip you to support the healthy development of children through child-centred learning experiences. Graduates of the Diploma program are eligible for Level 3 Early Childhood Educator certification from the Alberta Government.

Please note that the Certificate program is also the first year of the Diploma program. The Certificate program starts in the Winter term.

Delivery Method

Courses are delivered through a mixed delivery mode where learning activities take place through a blend of scheduled in-class and scheduled or non-scheduled online delivery methods. Learners are required to participate in scheduled learning activities. Scheduled exams may be required.

A full course load is 5 courses per term - students may choose to take fewer courses each term and extend the length of their program.

Practicums will be held at accessible regional licensed child care facilities approved by the Program Chair.

Program Description

Our Health Care Aide program will provide you with the opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on skills to assist people and provide person-centered care within a health care team. The program consists of full-time study over an eight-month period.

Delivery Method

Courses are delivered through a mixed delivery mode where learning activities take place through a blend of scheduled in-class and scheduled or non-scheduled online delivery methods. Learners are required to participate in scheduled learning activities. Scheduled exams may be required.
On-campus labs will be held at our Main Campus, located in Downtown Calgary.

Clinical instruction will occur in continuing care, acute care, and community/home care settings.

Program Description

There are many opportunities to use skills as a Practical Nurse, including child care, maternity nursing, community health, mental wellness, seniors care and medicine. The Practical Nurse Diploma program is a recognized and popular program for prospective health care providers.

Delivery Method

Courses are delivered through a mixed delivery mode where learning activities take place through a blend of scheduled in-class and scheduled or non-scheduled online delivery methods. Learners  are required to participate in scheduled learning activities. Scheduled exams may be required

On-campus labs will be held at our Main Campus, located in Downtown Calgary

Clinical placement will occur in continuing care, acute care, and community/home care settings.

Continuing Learning at Bow Valley College generally provides advanced competencies and/or certification in selected topics such as computer applications and programming, business and management, and health and wellness. See what courses are right for you: Bow Valley College Continuing Learning.

Many courses are available online and can be worked through at your own pace.

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

Learn English language skills for daily life and work. Classes start in October, January, and April and run for ten weeks.  

Permanent residents and Convention refugees are eligible for these courses.

Resources

The Airdrie Campus supports Academic Upgrading learners by providing space for learners to work on their courses and write their exams. Please contact us for more details.

We offer exam proctoring/invigilation for individuals taking distance education courses through other post-secondary institutions or learning organizations.
Exams may only be written from Monday to Friday, starting at 9:00 am or at 1:00 pm and finishing by 4:30 pm, based on campus availability.
Each exam writer will be charged an invigilation fee of $70 + GST per exam, as well as any additional costs incurred (printing, postage, etc.), to be paid on the day of the exam before exam writing begins.
