Description of Actual Services Provided and Results Achieved:
This tailored, client-driven program was offered four times over a two-year period, and introduced high-ranked government officials to various communication strategies designed to enhance cross-cultural written and oral skills. The 24-week program covered the principles, styles and strategies of effective cross-cultural communication in an International Trade setting. Included in the program was an interactive workshop on oral communication skills, pronunciation and presentation skills. This program included practical experience in the form of observation of a Canadian workforce.
These sessions explored the best practices in cross-cultural communication specifically for professionals working in international trade that are required to communicate across multiple cultural settings. English Language Training was a component of the workshops.
Instructors and administrators from various departments at BVC were integral in the design and execution of all the training, including curriculum formulation and review. Additionally, BVC facilitated meetings between the participants and local businesses, community and government representatives. As part the cultural immersion aspect, the training included the opportunity to experience local cultural and tourism activities.
