A digital credential is a means of verifying a person's learning and competency achievement. Digital credentials are issued online in the form of a digital icon that can be shared on a sites like LinkedIn, through email, and other online media.  In some cases, it can serve as an alternative to a paper credential (parchment). The digital credential icon is clickable and features information, such as the name of the institution that issued it, when it was issued, and the competencies that the recipient demonstrated to achieve the credential. Digital credentials are only displayed where the recipient chooses to display them.

Value of a digital credential

Representing your skills as a digital credential gives you the ability to share your qualifications online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Digital credentials instantly show employers and other organizations the specific competencies and skills that a person has demonstrated. Digital credentials allow individuals to display their achievements in a way that is not possible with simple paper-based credentials.
