Do you dream about working on the next big blockbuster? The thing that makes everyone say “woah!” in the theatre or behind the controller? Creating the next big indie hit that changes the way people game? Then come to the Bow Valley College Centre for Entertainment Arts where we offer five exciting programs in Advanced Film Production, Foundation in Entertainment Arts, Advanced 3D Animation and 3D Modelling, Advanced Visual FX, and Advanced Game Development. If you are an international student, you are eligible to apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP), which will allow you to stay in Canada for two to three years to put your newly acquired skills to the test. Advanced 3D Animation and 3D Modelling Diploma: Potential career pathways include 3D animator, character animator, creature animator, rigger, modeller, texturing and surfacing artist, storyboard artist, Previz artist, and layout artist.
Advanced Visual FX Diploma: Potential career pathways include 3D generalist, 3D modeller, look dev artist, lighter, FX artist, compositor, texturing and surfacing artist, roto/prep artist, and matchmove artist.
Advanced Game Development Diploma: Potential career pathways include 3D environment modeller, game designer, level designer, gameplay programmer, systems programmer, tools programmer, UX designer/UI designer, materials artist, technical artist, balance designer, systems designer, and monetization designer.
Foundation in Entertainment Arts Certificate applicants: submit a digital portfolio of five to 10 pieces (we recommend eight or more) of artistic work, such as sketches, renderings, and design variations in digital format. Successful portfolios reflect a broad range of techniques, influences, styles, and subject matter.
Advanced 3D Animation and 3D Modelling Diploma and Advanced Visual FX Diploma applicants: submit a digital portfolio of 15 to 20 pieces of artistic work, such as sketches, renderings, and design variations in digital format. Successful portfolios reflect a broad range of techniques, influences, styles, and subject matter.
Advanced Game Development Diploma applicants: submit a digital portfolio of 15 to 20 pieces of artistic/technical work, such as sketches, renderings, games, design variations, and code snippets in digital format. Your portfolio should showcase your proficiency in digital design software, creativity, artistic range, and/or technical ability and should demonstrate your personal artistic interests and identity. Successful applicant portfolios will reflect a broad range of techniques, influences, styles, and subject matter.
Advanced Film Production Diploma applicants: Portfolio submission should include a written submission (maximum 500 words) or a short video (maximum 5 minutes) based on the following:
- A short essay about a film you like (and what makes you enjoy it)
- A short essay about the film you want to make
- A short essay about a film you saw and how you would change it
- A highlight reel or portfolio work that you have created (maximum 5 minutes) - this video should be hosted on an online platform like Youtube or Vimeo (through a link)
