Bow Valley College hosts Indigenous Showcase to highlight programs and culture

Bow Valley College is pleased to invite media and members of the Calgary community to attend an Indigenous Showcase on Tuesday, March 20. The Indigenous Showcase is a part of Bow Valley College’s Indigenization Strategy to highlight current programs and initiatives for learners at Bow Valley College.

Bow Valley College’s Indigenous Showcase will begin with a Grand Entry. The Grand Entry will feature Indigenous leaders in traditional dress, drummers, dancers, and Bow Valley College Executive team members. Immediately following the Grand Entry, an Opening Prayer will be delivered by Bow Valley College’s Iniikokaan Centre’s Elder Clarence Wolfleg Sr.

Dance demonstrations will be held after a short program including Bow Valley College’s President and CEO, Laura Jo Gunter and students from the Bow Valley College Indigenous student group, “Supporting Our Actions Towards Reconciliation (SOAR).”

“It is important to recognize the progress we are making toward co-creating learning environments that engage tradition Indigenous perpsectives and ways of knowing. Indigenization at Bow Valley College requires a commitment from everyone to get involved, enhance understanding, and contribute our personal and collective efforts toward reconciliation,” says President and CEO Laura Jo Gunter.

The Grand Entry will begin at 11:00 a.m. on the third floor of Bow Valley College’s South campus.
