IC Week: Broadening the Scope

This year's Intercultural Week aims to expose you to new ideas, engage with people from different walks of life, and challenge what you think you know about others.

This year’s theme revolves around the concept of broadening the scope of our lens. How can we as global citizens increase our sensitivity and awareness of others? As we understand our interdependence on an individual and community level, we can begin to conceptualize how another's concerns and needs are as necessary to support as our own. IC Week 2018 aims to support participants in this journey, through activities that reflect the values, attitudes, and behaviours of competent global citizenship. This year's events include:

Monday, March 19 | Kickoff 

Join the IC as we kick off our fourth annual IC Week! Find out about our line up of events, and learn about this year's theme: Broadening the Scope.

Tuesday, March 20 | Real Pursuits 

This learner focused event will host four teams of two players, in this human sized board game, challenging participants on their perceptions and concepts of identity.

Wednesday, March 21 | Understanding Intergenerational Trauma within Indigenous Communities

Learn more about intergenerational trauma, faced by our Indigenous communities, in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This awareness building workshop is hosted by Tim Fox, Director of Indigenous Relations at the Calgary Foundation.

Thursday, March 22 | Innovative Accommodation: Exploring the Value of Inclusively Designed Workplaces

This workshop allows participants to understand how diversity can truly be a community's or an organization's advantage. Hayley Richards of Calgary Alternative Support Service will offer insight into the advantages of inclusion, in breeding innovation in designing the spaces we work in.  

Friday, March 23 | Global Portraits 

Join us for a photo display entitled, Global Portraits. Learners from Bow Valley College display their interpretation of their role as global citizens, and the role they play in our international community.
