What To Do In Case of Danger On Campus

While campus security does an excellent job keeping the college safe and secure, it is wise to be prepared. If a dangerous situation develops on campus, there is a procedure to follow, outlined in this video called Run, Hide, Fight – Danger On Campus

Run away from the danger.

Run away from the danger.
  1. If you see danger, move cautiously to the shortest, easiest route out of the building.

  2. Leave your belongings. Move away from the danger, and encourage others to do the same.

  3. Call 9-1-1 when it is safe to do so. Also call Campus Security at 403-410-1713.

  4. Do not stop once you get outside. Keep moving away from the campus to a safe place.

  5. Do not return to the campus until the College reports it is safe to return.

Hide until police and security get there.

Hide until police and security get there.
  1. If running is not an option, then hide in a classroom, office or storage area.

  2. Campus security will initiate an electronic lockdown, so all rooms will be locked from the outside.

  3. Once the lockdown happens, if you are not in a locked room continue your escape from the campus.

  4. If you are in a room, turn off the lights and pull down the blinds.

  5. Stay quiet. Move away from windows. Get out of sight.

  6. Call 9-1-1 when it is safe to do so and Campus Security at 403-410-1713.

  7. Do not open the door. Stay hidden until police or security arrive and tell you it is safe.

When there is no other option, prepare to fight.

When there is no other option, prepare to fight.
  1. A last resort, only if you are trapped with no place to escape.

  2. Look around you for any weapon you can find.

  3. Make a plan with the others.

  4. Surprise the attacker. Strike hard and fast. Swarm the attacker as a group.

  5. Be aggressive. Do anything and everything you can to stop them.

  6. Call 9-1-1 and inform the police you have captured the attacker.
