Anatomy and Physiology

This course offers an introduction to the normal structures and functions of the human body according to body systems. Recommended for those who have Biology 30 or who are able to commit to home/self study of complex materials in addition to classroom learning. In addition to class time, there is a 20 hour homestudy component. NOTE: Students who are interested in the BVC PN diploma my use this course as the science entrance requirement and receive credit with a mark of C, CPV 2.0 or above.
 

Advanced Assisting with Medication Delivery

Support workers and caregivers in a variety of settings (e.g., agencies, home care, daycare, and community care) can learn about medication delivery through participation in this course. This course is for health caregivers other than Licensed Practical Nurses and does not cover injections. It is recommended for those who are able to commit to 10 hours of home/self study in addition to classroom learning.
 
 

Basic Foot Care

Learn about foot anatomy, assessment and treatment, hygiene, preventive approaches and selection of footwear for optimum foot health. The program includes one day of classroom instruction at Bow Valley College and a one-day, hands-on experience at a long-term care facility. Course materials are provided in the workshop.
 

Care of an Agitated Client - Homestudy

This self-directed homestudy course reviews key elements in the care of agitated clients for Licensed Practical Nurses, Health Care Aides and family caregivers.
 
 

Documentation Refresher - Homestudy

This self-directed homestudy course reviews key elements in reporting, charting, and documentation for Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides.
 

Immunization - Online or Homestudy

Designed to meet the needs of Licensed Practical Nurses in performing the preparation and administration of immunizations, this course builds on previous LPN coursework in pharmacology and medication administration providing new knowledge, skills, attitudes, and judgments necessary to become certified to administer immunizing/biological agents.
 
 

Infusion Therapy - Fluid, Blood and Medication

This course is designed to meet the needs of Licensed Practical Nurses. Learn the theory, skills, and responsibilities of caring for clients receiving infusion therapy.
 

Intramuscular and Intradermal Injections

Learn the technique of administering intramuscular and intradermal injections.
 
 

Intravenous Medication Administration

Scope of practice for LPNs has expanded to include the competency of intravenous medication administration. Learn the theory, nursing interventions, and critical thinking skills required for administering intravenous medication safely and competently.
 

Leadership for Licensed Practical Nurses - Online

Building on the knowledge gained from their practical nurse education, this course provides Licensed Practical Nurses with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to analyze their transition to leadership practice and effectively take on formal and informal leadership roles within an increasingly complex health care environment. This course emphasizes practical approaches to gaining skills and confidence in leadership roles.
