What is Apply Alberta?

Students applying to Bow Valley College apply via ApplyAlberta, the provincial online application system. By using this system, transcripts from your Alberta high school and previously attended participating Alberta post-secondary institutions are sent to us automatically and at no additional charge.

Technical

1. I started my application on the Bow Valley College website, but I keep getting transferred to the ApplyAlberta website.
The ApplyAlberta application and transcript transfer system is integrated with Bow Valley College's application system. You will find at different points in the application process that you are on the website for Bow Valley College, the Government of Alberta site and ApplyAlberta. The transfer of information from one part of the application to the next is seamless and secure.

2. Do I use ApplyAlberta to apply for continuing education courses/programs?
No. If you wish to register for Bow Valley College Continuing Education courses, you may register directly on the Continuing Education webpage.

3. I'm having trouble with my Bow Valley College application.
Inquiries regarding your application should be directed to the Student Advising Centre.

4. I can't open the application.
If you are having problems opening the application, it may mean that the application server is experiencing technical difficulties. If this is the case, continue to try to open the application - a server problem would be rectified as quickly as possible. It may also be because your web browser does not comply with Apply Alberta's supported web browsers.  If you continue to experience technical difficulties, please contact the Apply Alberta Help Desk.

5. I get an 'unexpected error' while in the application.
Follow the instructions on the error page. If there are no instructions or you continue to experience difficulties once you follow the instructions, please contact the Apply Alberta Help Desk.

Alberta Student Number (ASN)

6. What is an Alberta Student Number (ASN)?
The ASN is a unique number assigned to any individual who has either applied to, or attended, any of the following in Alberta:

  • kindergarten
  • elementary school
  • junior high school
  • high school
  • college
  • technical institute
  • university

7. Why is the Alberta Student Number (ASN) required?
Our online application uses your ASN to authenticate your identity and to retrieve your transcripts, speeding up the application process.

8. I forget/don't know my ASN. What do I do now?
In order to apply to Bow Valley College, you must have your ASN. Click here to retrieve your ASN immediately.

9. I do not have an Alberta Student Number (ASN). What do I do?
If you do not have an Alberta Student Number (ASN), you must get one in order to apply to Bow Valley College or any other post-secondary institution in Alberta. The process takes minutes - click here to apply.

Personal Information

10. I attended BVC previously but I forget my Student ID Number.
If you cannot remember your BVC Student ID Number, simply complete the application and indicate your previous attendance at Bow Valley College in the Academic History section. We will look up your ID number when processing your application.

11. I don't have an e-mail address.
In order to apply using the ApplyAlberta on-line application and benefit from the free of charge transcript services, a valid email address is required. If you don't have an active email address, you may sign up for free e-mail using various web-based e-mail services such as Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail. 

12. My personal information is incorrect.
Once you have submitted your application, you must notify the Registrar's Office immediately if any of the information you submitted is incorrect. Valid documentation may be required.

13. I don't know the date of my Permanent Residency.
The effective date of Permanent Residency is noted on line 45 on your Confirmation of Permanent Residence form or on the back of your Permanent Resident card.

14. I don't know my postal code.
You can look up your postal code on the Canada Post website.

15. Can I use the web application system if I don't live in Alberta?
Yes. Any Canadian or international applicant can use this service to apply to Bow Valley College.

Education History

16. I can't find my high school in the drop-down list.
If you are unable to find your high school in the drop-down list in ApplyAlberta, check your spelling and consider if the school name has changed. If you are still unable to find your high school, simply select 'Other' and type in the name of your school.

17. I don't know the exact dates of my attendance.
Please attempt to input your estimated months and year of attendance. We understand that exact dates of attendance may not be remembered.

18. I don't have enough room to include all of the schools I attended.
Use the Additional Information section under the 'Declaration' tab to add any information that you didn't have room for in the application form.

Program of Study

19. I can't find the Program/Campus/Start Date I want to apply for.
Not all BVC programs are available for application through ApplyAlberta. Please review the Apply to Bow Valley page to confirm the application process for specific programs. If you require further assistance, please contact the Student Advising Centre at (403) 410-1402 during regular office hours, or through email. Staff will guide you to the information if it is available or will advise you of the application process if the program is not available on the Apply Alberta application.

20. Why can't I apply for more than one program?
Applicants are currently permitted one choice of program on their application for admission. If you wish to be considered for more than one program, you must submit a separate application and pay an application fee for each program.

Application Fee Payment

21. My payment won't go through but there is nothing wrong with my credit card
Sometimes, due to connectivity problems, the payment authorization is not transmitted properly. If you receive an error message, follow the instructions on that page. Alternately, you may return to the 'Payment and Submit' page and choose the 'Pay Later' option. Then, call the Registrar's Office at (403) 410-1400 to pay with your credit card over the phone.

22. I don't have a credit card
If you do not have a credit card, you may still apply online. Simply choose the 'Pay Later' option. By choosing this option, the application information will be submitted to Bow Valley College, but will be held until payment is made using one of the following options:

  • Pay in person, at the Registrar's Office, using Visa, MasterCard, cash, debit, personal cheque, certified cheque, money order.
  • Mail personal cheque, certified cheque or money order to (do not send cash through mail):

Information Changes

23. My address/name has changed since I submitted my application through Apply Alberta. How do I update my information?
If you update your personal information in your ApplyAlberta profile, that information WILL NOT BE forwarded to Bow Valley College if you have already submitted your application. If your personal information changes after you have submitted your application, you must contact the Registrar's Office at Bow Valley College directly. Supporting documentation may be required.

24. I've submitted my application and payment. Can I still make changes to it?
No. Once your application has been submitted to Bow Valley College, you cannot make changes. You may cancel your application and submit a new application but will be required to pay the application fee. If you have further questions, please contact the Registrar's Office at (403) 410-1400.

25. I've saved my application but chose the Pay Later option. Can I still make changes to it?
Once you save your application and choose Pay Later, you are not able to make changes to the application. Because your profile is saved with ApplyAlberta, you may submit a new application with your updated information and submit.
