Volunteer Opportunities
Adult Literacy Volunteer Program
Open the doors to knowledge and skills by helping an adult student improve their reading, writing and basic math skills. Work one-on-one with an adult in one of the Bow Valley College adult literacy programs: Lifeline to Literacy, ABLE, SARAW, and Intermediate Literacy. There are opportunities to work in classroom settings with a facilitator or individually with a single student.
In SARAW and Intermediate Literacy programs you work one-on-one with a literacy student. The time commitment is approximately three hours per week. Training and ongoing support is provided. If you'd like to become a volunteer tutor, call Carol McCullough at 403-410-1525. If you are specifically interested in volunteering in SARAW, call Belle Auld at 403-410-1503.
American Sign Language for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Adult Learners
Provide ASL (American Sign Language) in-class assistance to DHH students. A bilingual/bicultural approach is used and classes are delivered in ASL. These courses include reading, writing, computer basics, and ASL Orientation and ongoing support is provided. Volunteers must have fluent ASL skills and day-time availability.
