Bow Valley College receives $1.25 million gift from Students Association

April 27, 2017

CALGARY - The Students Association of Bow Valley College (SABVC) announced today that it will be donating a gift of $1.25 million to the College's Quest for Best campaign.

The announcement was made this morning at the College's Board of Governors meeting, where all board members, College and SABVC executives were in attendance. SABVC executives from 2016/17, who were instrumental in orchestrating this collaboration, were joined by the newly elected SABVC executives from 2017/18 to present a mock cheque to College President and CEO, Laura Jo Gunter.

"This tremendous act of generosity and commitment by our Students Association is an investment in Bow Valley College's quest to be the best comprehensive community college in terms of learner success," said Bow Valley College President and CEO, Laura Jo Gunter.

"We are very grateful for this gift, as it will support the College in its mission to create lifelong learning opportunities for students, providing the support they need to follow their dreams and achieve success."

The gift brings the College to over 95 per cent of its $20 million goal for the Quest for Best campaign. It is believed to be the largest donation from a student association to a community college in Alberta.

The SABVC has been generously supporting learners with financial awards since 2002. Each year they provide a total of 12 student awards, two awards for each school, and also contribute $50k a year to the College's Finish Line Fund, designed to assist students near the end of their studies, who are financially at risk of not completing school. With today's announcement, the SABVC at Bow Valley College will have invested over $1.5 million in the current and future success of students.

"SABVC is delighted to gift $1.25 million to Bow Valley College and the overall betterment of the student body. This is the largest donation in our organization's history, and we are thrilled to be contributing to Bow Valley College in a way which impacts students in such a positive light. SABVC generously donates bursaries to students every year, including $65,000 this year alone. We are proud to continue to provide students with resources that create opportunities to have the most enjoyable and successful college experience possible," said Arshit Dhingra, President, SABVC.
