Bow Valley College Course & Program Materials Fees Information (March 2010)

In addition to tuition, Student Card, Students’ Association, and Health & Dental fees, Bow Valley College assesses Materials Fees. All fees are subject to change.

Below is a summary of the items the Materials Fee covers in each program area:

Business & Industry
Students are charged a nominal material fee each semester for printing costs. These fees cover materials distributed in class (course outlines, program booklets, exams), as well as assignments printed in computer labs at the request of the instructor.

NOTE: Material fee costs do not include the printing of instructor presentation materials used during class lectures (such a PowerPoint presentations, for example), or of any electronic reference materials. Faculty members are not expected to provide their presentation materials to students.

Medical Office Assistant Program fees also cover dressing materials, gloves, cleansing solutions, distilled water, etc.

Interior Decorating and Merchandizing Program fees also cover paints, fabrics, design materials and accessories for displays.

Academic Foundations
The program material fees for Academic Foundation programs cover the costs of photocopy handouts and tests for students, lab supplies and materials, student information materials, and subsidization of field trips. Students are not generally required to print out their own course handouts in Academic Foundation courses.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE & INTERNATIONAL
Students in the full-time ESL program are charged a fee that covers the costs of one workbook per term as well as other class resources, such as newspapers and magazines.

HEALTH & COMMUNITY CARE
Pharmacy Technician Diploma: The material fee covers lab supplies and supplies required for doing prescriptions in class.

Practical Nurse Diploma and Health Care Aide Certificate Programs: The material fee covers lab kits and lab supplies.

Human Services: The material fee covers printing the student handbook and all materials used in class.
