BVC Cares

Bow Valley College cares about Calgary and our local community. We invite staff, students, and alumni to volunteer at quarterly events and help support non-profit organizations with the manpower to achieve their goals.

LinkAges - Digital Connections
Help seniors in learning how to connect in the digital world

LinkAges - IG Day 2017
Intergenerational Day highlights the importance of relationships between generations and brings light to the senior- youth relationships that are important to strengthening community as well as the exploration of knowledge between generations. The Theme for this year's IG Day is "Arts In Canada". Music, art and theatre are brought together to celebrate IG Day 2017!
Activities for volunteer include: handing out swag bags to those that complete evaluations; administering evaluations at the event; assisting performers with their gears and directing them to their mapped out locations etc.
Where:  Downtown Core & Stephen's Avenue 
When:  June 1, 2017 from 10:00am - 3:00pm (shifts available for a minimum of 2 hour per shift). Snacks and drinks will be provided!

Lougheed House - Historic Interpreter Volunteers
Interpreters tell stories about the house that are most meaningful to them, leading guests on tours, often in costume.
Skills Required:

LMC—Diabetes & Endocrinology
Volunteer activities include:
 -   Placing calls to remind patients of their appointments.
 -   Putting together handout folders for diabetes education classes. 
 -   Tracking class attendance. 
 -   Creating displays and handouts on various diabetes related topics. 
 -   Other activities as needed.

Immigrant Services Calgary Opportunities:

Facilitators for Fun 4 All (Parent and Tot Program - ages 2 & up).
Fun sessions for parent and tot to strengthen their bond while practicing the children's fine and gross motor skills. Sessions include crafts, storytelling, dancing and free play.
Volunteer Facilitators' responsibilities:
-   Organize activities for the day and guide the children
-   Create fun experience for the children
Skills required:
-   Ability to adapt to language barriers of new immigrant parents and children
-   Experience in working with children; Early Learning and child care; child studies is an asset; valid police check needed
Date & Time: Thursdays from 4.30pm - 5.30pm

Cooking with Friends
Childcare volunteer needed. Must have experience in childminding and have a valid police check.

Homework Club (K-6)
Free homework support and tutoring for young children in Grades K-6 covering Math, Science, English & Social Studies. Valid police check required (costs covered by Immigrant Services Calgary.)
