Bow Valley College Policies and Procedures in Applied Research & Evaluation

Ethical Conduct for Research involving Human Participants

This policy and procudure governs the conduct of research involving humans.

Summary: Research involving human participants at Bow Valley College will be conducted in accordance with the Tri-Council Policy Statement for the Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Humans. Bow Valley College's Research Ethics Board (REB)  govern the ethical conduct of research on human participants at the College. All research and research-related activity involving human participants conducted under the auspices of the College shall fall within the jurisdiction of the REB, irrespective of the source of financial support (if any) and irrespective of the location of the project.

Applied Research and Promotion of Innovation at Bow Valley College

This policy describes the purpose and goals of applied research at Bow Valley College.

Summary: Applied research activity informs our practice and strengthens innovation and technology transfer with the community and industry. Research activities are undertaken when there is sufficient evidence that they have has a strong potential for practical learning experiences for adult learners; enhance knowledge about innovation in the community, workplace and/or adult education; and/or contribute to economic, cultural and social development.

Integrity in Research and Scholarship

This policy provides direction in the establishment of practices for maintenance of high standards of integrity in research and scholarship. 

Summary: Bow Valley College is committed to the highest standards of integrity in research and scholarship and expects that its staff and students will carry out research and scholarly work maintaining the highest ethical and scientific standards of academic integrity. Such integrity requires careful supervision of research, including that conducted by students; competent use of methods; adherence to ethical standards of discipline; and the refusal to engage in or condone instances of fraud or misconduct.

Program and Course Evaluation

This policy and procedure describes the purpose and process for program evaluation at Bow Valley College.

Summary: The ongoing evaluation of programs, courses, and academic support services is Bow Valley College's commitment to quality learning. Programs offered by Bow Valley College will undergo a program evaluation process to ensure program relevancy and currency. New programs will be evaluated within the first two years of implementation. One aspect of academic support services will be evaluated in an academic year.
