English Language Learning

 Bow Valley College is the largest English Language Learning (ELL) provider in Calgary and its surrounding region and has some of the finest ELL programs in Canada. Our teachers have a reputation for excellence in teachingand accommodating each student's individual needs.

We work with newcomers to Canada, Canadian citizens and international students. Each student is individually assessed for English-Language ability and placed in the appropiate class.

ELL: Beginner - Low Intermediate

This basic level course improves your ability to speak, listen, read and write in English in everyday situations. This is a 40-hour-course.

ELL: High Intermediate and Advanced

This multi-level course improves your ability to speak, listen, read and write in English. Level testing will be conducted at the beginning of this course based on the Canadian Language benchmarks and the course will progress based on the particular needs of the students enrolled.

ELL: Writing Skills Improvement **Intensive Course

This is a 30 hour intensive intermediate-advance class for English Language Learners who want to improve their writing skills. You must be able to write at least 8-10 sentences on a topic to be ready for this class. Learners will practice their writing on a variety of personal and everyday topics.

Speaking Professionally

This advanced-level ELL class focuses on the language of business. The following areas of language will be covered as they relate to the workplace: presentations, meetings, networking, small talk, idioms, and cultural differences.

ELL:Reading and Writing

Intermediate and advanced English Language Learners in this class will focus on increasing their reading and fluency and comprhension and improving their writing skills. Lessons will include vocabulary building activities, reading strategy instruction, the basics of writing good sentences and paragraphs and journal writing.

ELL:Listening and Speaking

This is a multi-level class for English listening and speaking practice. Students will learn to better understand native speakers and practice using the correct vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar in their speaking. This is a 40-hour-course.

Language Instuction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Program Part-time

Learn the English language skills you need for living, working, and studying in Canada. For eligible applicants, there is no charge for LINC classes. Applicants must be landed immigrants or have refugee status, but cannot be Canadian citizens. Funding for this program is provided by Citezenship and Immigration Canada.
