Bow Valley College scholarship recipients recognized at Annual Premier’s Luncheon

For 22 years the sitting Premier of Alberta has joined Bow Valley College in recognizing and supporting learners at our annual Premier’s Scholarship Luncheon.

This year, local dignitaries will join Premier Rachel Notley; Laura Jo Gunter, President and CEO of Bow Valley College; and David Collyer, Chair, Bow Valley College Board of Governors on campus on May 11, for the 23rd Premier's Scholarship Luncheon, presented by Trico Homes.

“To all of this year’s scholarship recipients, I’m proud to call myself your fellow Albertan and I’m determined to make sure we can continue to help you chase your dreams,” says Premier Rachel Notley. “People come to Bow Valley College in search of better lives – to learn a new skill or improve on a skill they already have. To plan courses and recruit great faculty, our colleges, institutes and universities need stable, predictable funding, not massive cuts. We will keep investing in Albertans and investing in our province’s future.”

The Premier's Scholarship Luncheon is an important fundraiser for scholarships at the College. The funds raised have helped learners reach their academic, career, and life goals. Through donor contributions and matching funds, more than 300 learners have benefited through this awards program over the past 23 years. Of those, more than 170 learners have received the Premier’s Scholarship or the Premier’s Community Commitment Scholarship.

“The Premier’s Scholarship Awards show tremendous support for our learners. These awards signify that our government and communities value our students’ efforts and contributions,” says Laura Jo Gunter, President and CEO of Bow Valley College.

“I congratulate all of our award recipients and thank our supporters for their commitment to fostering learner success. In particular, I join our College community in expressing appreciation to the Premier and Government of Alberta for their ongoing partnership and support of the exceptional learning experiences delivered by Bow Valley College.”

To qualify for the Premier's Scholarship, learners must display academic excellence, qualities of citizenship, and financial need. The learners are nominated by faculty members. The five scholarship recipients will receive $3,500.

In addition, five learners will receive the Premier's Community Commitment Scholarship. This award recognizes the commitment of those learners who take the time to help build strong communities. Recipients of this award will receive $3,000.

President Gunter and the scholarship recipients will be available for interviews following the luncheon.
