Community Engagement in Post-Secondary Education Solutions

During 2011, Bow Valley College and its partners conducted a series of community consultations in Cochrane, High River, Okotoks and Strathmore. The consultations uncovered the adult education learning priorities of rural individuals and smaller communities. The information gathered is being used to inform the delivery of affordable, accessible and relevant post-secondary education opportunities to small communities and rural residents in the Calgary region. See the Community Engagement in Post-Secondary Education Solutions project report.

Reaching Out: Access to Adult Education and Training in the Calgary Regional Communities

In 2010, the College undertook a survey of its southern Alberta communities to determine their adult education and labour market needs. Outcomes from the study were shared at the Partnering on Solutions conference, which took place in High River. Community members, government officials, and business representatives were in attendance. The keynote speaker, Dr. Roger Gibbins, former President and CEO of the Canada West Foundation, stressed that the needs of communities differ from one another, and that the challenge - and the answer - lies in community outreach and engagement.
